With Apple releasing new models every year, it can be confusing to keep track of which iPhone you have. Knowing your exact model is important for things like software updates, accessories, resale value, or deciding if it’s time to upgrade.
Here’s how to quickly identify your iPhone, plus what to do once you know.
How to Check Which iPhone You Have (The Easy Way)
The simplest way is right in your iPhone’s settings:
1. Go to Settings > General > About.
2. Look for Model Name (e.g., iPhone 15 Pro).
3. You’ll also see a Model Number — tap it to reveal the code that starts with an “A” (like A3101), that’s your iPhone model.
Using Apple’s Official Model Number Lookup
Every iPhone has a unique model number that can be matched to Apple’s official list. Or use our handy reference table in the next section.
- On older models (iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, SE (1st gen), iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone 7, 7 Plus) the model number is printed on the back
- On newer models, find it in Settings > General > About.

Visual Identification: Spotting Your iPhone by Design
If your iPhone isn’t turning on, or you just want to identify it at a glance, design features can help, especially the camera layout can give you some clues:
- Single camera → only the iPhone XR and older models have a single camera, with the exception of the iPhone SE series and the newly released iPhone 16e.
- Dual camera → iPhone 11, iPhone 12/12 mini, iPhone 13/mini, iPhone 14/14 Plus, iPhone 15/15 Plus
- Triple camera → Pro and Pro Max models since iPhone 11 Pro.
Size can also help you narrow down which iPhone you have: iPhone 8 and earlier as well as SE models are small (4.7” display) whereas Pro Max and Plus models are large (6.5-6.7” display).
