Bored of your old phone? Ready to upgrade? The iPhone 14 appeals to many with its knockout camera, powerful battery and lighter build, at a lower price than today’s new iPhones.
Still, is it really worth it to buy the iPhone 14 in 2025? Today we’ll look carefully at the iPhone 14’s camera, battery, performance and longevity to help you decide if it’s worth buying.
Does the iPhone 14 Still Hold Up in 2025?
Yes! The iPhone 14 remains a great choice in 2025, even compared to the iPhone 16. It offers essentials like 5G compatibility, reliable battery life and a powerful chip for smooth, snappy performance. While it uses the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13, it introduces an extra core for better efficiency under high load.
For a used iPhone with the best possible camera, the iPhone 14 especially stands out. While it doesn’t quite measure up to the iPhone 16, the iPhone 14 made significant strides in photography, especially for low light, videos and selfies.
Even the iPhone 15, released in September 2023, doesn’t have a noticeably better photography experience than the iPhone 14, so the iPhone 14 is a wise choice for shoppers who want the most camera bang for their buck.

When Was the iPhone 14 Released?
The iPhone 14 was announced on September 7, 2022 and became available on September 16, 2022. At the time of writing in 2025, that’s about three years ago — still respectably recent in iPhone years.
How Long Will the iPhone 14 be Supported?
As of 2025, the iPhone 14 is up to date with the latest iOS version, and it will be supported for a while to come.
Apple generally supports phones with new iOS updates for 6 to 8 years after their release, most phones getting 7 years. That means we can most likely look forward to iOS support for the iPhone 14 until fall 2029, or four more years at the time of writing.
Even in 2030 when it’s no longer updated, the iPhone 14 will still be a usable phone. Losing iOS updates doesn’t mean a phone is destined for the trash heap, just that it won’t get the latest features anymore. Eventually, though, some apps won’t be compatible or able to update.

How Much is an iPhone 14 in 2025 in Canada
The iPhone 14 is one of the few refurbished phones that Apple sells, but it doesn’t come cheap. At the time of writing, the only iPhone 14 in Apple’s Canadian refurbished shop is an eye-watering $979 CAD.

With the iPhone 16 starting at $999, why even bother shopping refurbished at that price?
The good news is, you have a better option: Orchard. Our iPhone 14s start at $609 CAD, a $370 savings over Apple, and you’ll have your choice of colours and storage tiers.

What Charger Does the iPhone 14 Use?
The iPhone 14 is the last iPhone to use the venerable Lightning cable, before the change to USB type-C for the iPhone 15 and beyond.
This can be a good or bad thing: if you don’t want to buy new chargers, you’ll probably be more comfortable sticking with Lightning. But USB type-C offers benefits like super fast data transfer and wider compatibility, so you don’t need to rummage through different cables to find one that works with your device. Since USB-C has now become the standardized cable, most new devices you buy will likely use it as well.
Both Lightning and USB-type C enable fast charging, as long as you’re using a Lightning-to-C or C-to-C cable and an appropriate power block.
Is the iPhone 14 Waterproof?
The iPhone 14 is resistant to water but not completely waterproof.
In other words, getting a splash of water on your iPhone 14 should be okay, but we definitely wouldn’t recommend going swimming with your iPhone 14! (Especially since liquid damage is not covered under Apple’s warranty.)
